Acajou and satine cube-parquetry, gilt-tooled blue leather slide-out writing surface, one lock has been removed to reveal the Ct. Linke stamp within an oval, one of the shell-like handles with traces of the FL mark from the bronze master model.Height 48 3/4"; Width 57 7/8"; depth 31.25"Literature: C. Payne, Francois Linke, p. 422 for the desk of the same form, index number 442 with candlearms, shown in a period photograph at the Linke showrooms, Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Paris.Linke title: Bureaux cylindre Louis XV violette, et mosaique satine, marqueterie en medaillon sur le cylindre.The model first appears in the Blue Book 1-390 as index number 242, but it appears to have been made available shortly afterwards in a more elaborate version as Archive number 393. Linke's price list suggests a size 162 cm wide. However, this piece is possible a special commission at 147 cm. This complex version with cube parquetry appears in the Blue Daybook in 1900 as a commission for a Madame Seiler. Records show that the cabinetmaker Komarek started the first on March 18, 1900 and finished on May 13 of that year, working 456 hours at 80 centimes per hour.
