after a model by Caffiéri, cast with a dog and cat respectively, each seated upon a cushion.
This popular and much repeated model was created by Jacques Caffiéri circa 1770, and a variant by Philippe Caffiéri in 1775. The model of the cat and the dog is repeated seated upon bases of varying design (see Ottomeyer, Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 201, figs. 3.14.11, 3.14.10, 3.14.12).
